Terms of service

Last updated 28 August 2026

These terms govern your use of WalkHilbre, including its tide information, calculated crossing guidance, maps, visitor guides, public data and crossing widget. If you do not agree to them, please stop using the service.

1. About WalkHilbre

WalkHilbre is an independent personal project providing free information about visiting the Hilbre Islands. References to “WalkHilbre”, “we”, “us” or “our” mean the person operating this website.

WalkHilbre does not control the beach, islands, tides, weather, access route, noticeboard, emergency services or visitor facilities. It cannot authorise a crossing or declare the route officially open or closed.

2. What the service provides

The service combines predicted tide information, a calculated crossing model, weather context, maps and visitor guidance. Tide times and calculated crossing windows are different things. Neither describes every hazard or confirms that conditions are suitable for a particular person.

Displayed times normally use Europe/London local time. Check the date, time zone, update time and complete return window before relying on any display. Never infer current guidance from a static page, search result, screenshot, cached copy or machine-readable file.

WalkHilbre does not inspect or supervise your crossing. You are solely responsible for deciding whether to set out, continue or return. You must make that decision using the Dee Lane crossing information, current official advice, the conditions you can observe and your own judgement, taking account of your ability, daylight, visibility, weather and terrain.

3. Accuracy and availability

We take reasonable care when maintaining WalkHilbre, but predictions and live information can be incomplete, delayed or wrong. Wind, atmospheric pressure, surge, shifting channels, surface water, provider errors, equipment faults and network or software failures can make observed conditions differ from a model.

We do not promise that the service will always be available, uninterrupted, current or error-free. We may correct, suspend, restrict or withdraw any part of it when reasonably necessary, including during faults, maintenance or safety investigations.

4. Responsibility and liability

Walking across a tidal estuary involves inherent risks, including rapidly changing tides and weather, soft or uneven ground, slippery rocks, poor visibility, channels and separation from the mainland. You choose whether to undertake the crossing and remain responsible for your route, preparation, equipment, conduct and decisions.

Where WalkHilbre has exercised reasonable care, it is not responsible for injury, loss or damage caused by a visitor’s decision to set out or continue, failure to check or follow the Dee Lane crossing information and official warnings, reliance on stale or incomplete information, departure from the recognised route, or conditions that WalkHilbre does not control.

WalkHilbre is supplied for personal visitor planning. We are not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss, or business losses such as lost profit, revenue, contracts, opportunity or goodwill caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control or by business use that does not follow the widget instructions.

5. External information and links

WalkHilbre uses or links to information and services supplied by third parties, including public authorities, safety organisations, weather and environmental-data providers, map providers and community organisations. Those organisations control their own information and services.

A link, citation or map attribution does not mean that the third party endorses WalkHilbre or that WalkHilbre acts for that organisation. Third-party websites are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

6. Crossing widget

We grant website publishers a limited, non-exclusive, revocable permission to embed the official WalkHilbre crossing widget using the code provided on the widget page. The visible WalkHilbre attribution and link must be retained.

Publishers must not alter the widget’s data or safety wording, present it as an official service or safety guarantee, obscure its warnings or attribution, or use cached output as a substitute for the live widget. Publishers remain responsible for their surrounding claims, implementation, accessibility and compliance with applicable law.

We may update or withdraw the widget and may prevent use that is misleading, abusive, technically harmful or inconsistent with these terms.

7. Content and acceptable use

Unless a credit or licence says otherwise, WalkHilbre’s original text, branding, software and presentation are protected by intellectual-property law. Third-party photographs, map data and source material remain subject to their respective owners’ rights and licences.

You may browse, link to and share reasonable extracts of public pages with clear attribution. Public Markdown and llms.txt resources are provided to improve accessibility and discovery, not as permission to republish the site wholesale or remove source attribution.

Do not interfere with the service, overload its infrastructure, bypass access controls, introduce malicious code, misrepresent WalkHilbre data, or use the site for unlawful activity. Automated access must remain reasonable and respect published crawler controls.

8. Privacy and advertising

Selected pages may display advertising. The crossing widget does not contain advertising or analytics. Information about browser preferences, location features, performance reporting, advertising and consent choices is provided in our privacy policy.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the service, its risks or applicable requirements change. The revision date at the top identifies the current version. Changes apply from publication and do not retrospectively remove rights or liabilities that have already arisen.

10. General terms

If any provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a provision does not waive it.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, this does not remove any mandatory protection provided by the law of the country where you live, and you may use any court available to you under applicable law.

11. Contact

Questions, complaints and reports of possible errors can be sent to dan@pageandplace.co.uk. Email is not monitored as an emergency channel.
